Professional home economist and Order of Canada winner Anne Lindsay is an internationally recognized spokesperson for healthy eating. Her corpus of cookbooks, starting with Smart Cooking in 1984, encourages Canadians to eat smarter meals that are lighter but nutrient dense. For several years she has partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation to raise awareness of how chronic illnesses can be prevented or managed through the consumption of wholesome foods. In Anne Lindsay’s Light Kitchen, originally published in 1993, she collaborated with United Way Canada to produce a cookbook that entwined her approach to cooking with the United Way’s goals: to build strong, healthy communities. Using the recommendations from Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating, the book’s recipes cover a range of dishes that are not only nutritious and affordable, but also delicious.
