Hall of Fame Award | 2009

The first Taste Canada Hall of Fame Award was given to Elizabeth Driver, a culinary historian, editor, and writer. Former President of the Culinary Historians of Ontario (now Culinary Historians of Canada), Driver is best known for her comprehensive work, Culinary Landmarks: A Bibliography of Canadian Cookbooks, 1825-1949. A mainstay on the bookshelves of Canadian food historians, two decades’ worth of meticulous research went into the production of Culinary Landmarks. The book provides information on the many cookbooks published in Canada between 1825 and 1949, in addition to biographical details about their authors. In total, over 2000 cookbooks are featured. Driver’s knowledge of the subject matter has changed the way that food history is studied in Canada. Unmatched in its depth, Culinary Landmarks will continue to provide researchers with an abundance of facts about the history of Canadian cookbook writing and how the field has changed over time.
