Hall of Fame Award | 2010

Throughout her long career as a food editor and writer, Carol Ferguson was a force on the Canadian culinary scene. She will be remembered, especially, for her contributions to magazines like Canadian Living and Homemakers, and for being one of the founding members of Taste Canada’s predecessor, Cuisine Canada. While working for the Canada Packers Company, she developed the “No Fail” pastry recipe found on packages of lard and shortening. In 1987, Ferguson wrote the first Canadian Living Cookbook, and contributed to later editions. The book became a bestseller, offering over 500 recipes that represent various regions across Canada. Not only did Ferguson educate Canadians about their food history and culinary traditions, she was also an innovator, developing recipes that were fool-proof and adaptable to new technologies, like the microwave.
