ProTen Beef

Proten Beef had changed the way beef was cooked in the 1950s. prior to Proten Beef you were only able to broil and roast sirloin and rib cuts. That all changed with the emergence of Proten beef. Proten used a pre-tendering process with its beef that was produced by the new scientific method that developed the natural tenderness in beef, in anyway chosen to prepare the beef. Proten was government approved and also had a patent. All beef that had the Proten trademark were also produced in government-inspected plants. Proten beef had the same appearance, taste and preparation as other beef, just more tenderness.

The Cookbook

“Beef beyond belief” includes the instructions for oven-roasting, broiling and barbequing, and braising. These methods are not altered as ProTen beef has the same preparation and cooking methods as other types of beef, but include cooking times, cooking temperatures and other essential information needed for cooking beef. Along with the different ways of cooking the beef, there are various recipes included in the cookbook. This cookbook does also include tips on storing Proten beef in the fridge and freezer. Although you can store Proten beef as you would with any other fine beef, these are specific storing tips recommended for Proten beef.

Development of the Beef Cattle Industry

For the past 6500 years, cattle have been used primarily for clothing, milk and food. Cattle were valuable possessions among the primitive people, as a matter of fact cattle value was compared to the value property. Cattle spread across America by 1840, but the population of Eastern America and their need for cattle grew to fast for the available supply of cattle. In 1960, refrigerated railway cars were introduced to the cattle industry allowing cattle to be slaughtered in the west and sold in the eastern parts of America.  Beef consumption per person in America went from 56 pounds in 1937 to about 100 pounds in 1964. This had increased by the purchasing power of the consumer and farm populations. With the expected population expansion in American, the industry had to expand as well and improve the way beef if produced.
