Molasses, which is used in several recipes throughout the cookbook (especially for the recipes "Ginger Sparkles" and "Molasses Cookies" has its own National Molasses Bar Day. Molasses is a sticky and sweetened syrup that is found is many baking recipes and has been used as a sweetener since the 1500s. The word "molasses" comes from a Portuguese word, "melaco," and has evolved from the Latin word "mel," which means honey.
