The Black Whale Cookbook was compiled by Mrs. Ethel Renouf. Mrs. Renouf lived in Percé, on the Gaspé Coast of Eastern Quebec. She was the President of the Percé Handicraft Committee, and was also tasked with running The Black Whale Store in the community. Renouf held both of these positions for a very long time. She was an important part of her community, and thanks to her The Black Whale Store sponsored multiple publications, including The Black Whale Cookbook. Not only was Renouf the compiler of the cookbook, but she also contributed some of her own recipes. One of the more notable inclusions is her Strawberry Jam, which was also sold at The Black Whale Store.
