The Canada Bread Company was founded on June 9, 1911. According to Elizabeth Driver, the company was formed as a consolidation of several large Canadian bread manufacturing businesses, one of which was the Bredin Bread Company of Toronto. It became a national company with customers in eleven of the principal cities in Canada. Moving its head office from the central region of Toronto, the Canada Bread Company is now located in Etobicoke, Ontario. According to their website, the Canada Bread Company’s primary objective and mission is “to serve delicious and nutritious baked goods and snacks to all Canadians.” The company is currently the leading producer and distributor of packaged fresh bread and bakery products and sells a variety of products, including sliced bread, buns and rolls, breakfast products, and tortillas. The Butter-Nut Boy was part of the company’s logo and marketing efforts for more than a decade starting in 1910, and the image of this boy can still be seen on the last page of the cookbook. Besides The Art of Sandwich Making, the company has also written a few other cookbooks, one of which is entitled Master Chef Recipes for the Use of Bread, published in 1932, and another, Yum Yum Sandwiches for Boys and Girls, published in 1920.
