Introduction
This is a 1947 cookbook compiled and published by the guild of the St.Mary’s Anglican Church in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. The Kindersley Cookbook is a 52-page booklet made up of over 225 recipes written by various women from all over Canada. This cookbook is a part of the Jean Paré Collection. It features recipes from church members and relatives of church members. This cookbook is composed of a variety of recipes, cooking suggestions, as well as numerous local advertisements. The 3.5 centimetre high image of a woman standing on the front of the book behind a counter pilled with food provides knowledge that is was assumed the woman of the household would prepare the meals for the husband and children. With dimensions of only 22.5 centimetres by 15.5 centimetres and held together with 2 staples allows the reader to acknowledge the smallness of the book. This book includes advertisements every couple of pages with drawings to keep the reader interested and engaged. Although these images do not directly complement the text and the recipes, they allow the reader to engage better with the advertisements. A lot of the advertisements state how or where you could find a product needed for the recipe locally in town. Most recipes are made up of easy-to-follow instructions with simple ingredients and the required cooking process. The index to navigate the different sections of the book is located in the back pages. This book was geographically focused around Kindersley, Saskatchewan and it has a great historical meaning to Kindersley as well as to the current readers.
