The Art of Sandwich Making: A Collection of Famous and Fashionable Sandwiches is a small but mighty and meaningful cookbook that was written and distributed by the Canada Bread Company in 1926. It contains recipes for everything from salmon sandwiches to cucumber sandwiches to cocoanut bread pudding. The cookbook was published in Toronto, Ontario, and was likely written for promotional purposes, to engage consumers by providing recipes that catered to the purchase and enjoyable use of the Canada Bread Company’s individual bread products. Beginning with a short history of the sandwich and its supposed discovery by the Earl of Sandwich in 1758, a short section then follows which includes tips and tricks for preparing sandwiches, followed by the main section of the cookbook, which contains various sandwich-related recipes. Each recipe includes easy to follow instructions and ingredient lists. The cookbook also has beautifully illustrated images, many of them in colour, which accompany each page of the sandwich recipe book. The original cookbook is in great condition, with the colours still bright and vivid, and is signed by Elsie L. Martin, a previous owner.
