Did you Know?

Nutrition beliefs were very different in the 1930s than they are today! Since this cookbook included some information about health and nutrition, it was interesting to discover some of the beliefs that were common during this time period. There were also some interesting nutrition claims present in the advertisements throughout the book. For example, one advertisement for corn syrup on page 42 refers to it as a food that is “good for everybody”. Another advertisement on page 44 talks about how people should buy corn syrup because it is “a food recommendation by leading doctors and dietitians for its high nourishment value.” Clearly nutrition beliefs have greatly evolved over the years!
