Did you Know?
Did You Know… that the Hudson’s Bay Company did not have stores located in Ontario or Quebec until the late 1960’s?! It is evident that the HBC played a larger role in the identity of western Canada’s population than of eastern Canada's. Although the HBC was not a recognized department store in these areas of the country, department stores such as Eaton’s and Simpson’s dominated the urban society. Opening in the years 1869, and 1871 these two departments stores were sure to have had their own influence on Canadian identity also.
