Did you know the history of chopsticks date back to before 1200 B.C. The utensils we see today associated with sushi and Chinese take-outs originated in the Henan province in China, it is said that the Yin ruins in the Henan province not only wielded the first documents of Chinese writing but also the first known chopsticks. The early use of chopsticks was intended for cooking and were much longer than the traditional chopsticks we see today. Slowly as food became bite sized and a population boom occurred, the use of knives became dated and overtime chopsticks were integrated into dining room utensils. Today there are many different styles of chopsticks, Chinese use a blunt end chopstick compared to Japanese who use a pointier tip. Although, disposable chopsticks are usually made of wood or bamboo as the more expensive sets are made of ivory, jade, coral, brass or silver.
