The ingredients for the recipe are very simple and would have been easy to find. The ingredients are: butter, eggs, milk, yeast, sugar and salt. Cinnamon Buns were and still are commonly eaten as a breakfast or as a dessert. It is a type of sweet yeast bread that is often served in the morning.

 

The instructions for the recipe are very long and complicated. It is well explained, but this recipe is definitely not for beginners. Measurements use standard cups and is easy to follow but there is no temperature indicated for the oven. This recipe takes a lot of time and a lot of previous knowledge and expertise regarding how the dough should feel and look. The recipe depends on a well-versed baker who is confident with dough. The cinnamon bun is a recipe that originated from Europe. This is an example of how Europeans brought over recipes from their home countries to be made in Canada. We can see that Canadian society has incorporated many European customs.

The ingredients for this recipe would have been somewhat expensive. The ingredients are: Bread yeast dough, eggs, shredded citron or candied orange peel, sugar, butter, nutmeg and cinnamon. Some of these ingredients like cinnamon and nutmeg would not have been found in the everyday kitchen of a Canadian. The recipe is easy to follow and would not be too difficult for an intermediate level baker. It turns out, however, that this recipe for krapfen is not like the fried dough commonly known as a doughnut. It is baked in a round cake pan.

The krapfen is clearly not a recipe born in North America. It is considered to be a traditional German pastry. This is another example of how traditional European foods were popular in Canada during the 1900s. The recipe is straightforward but would still need to be created by someone with experience. We can see that most of these recipes are written for someone with a fair amount of time and also a good understanding of how pastries are made.
