International order of the king's sons and daughters logo.jpg

This cookbook was published by a Christian women’s group run by The St. Andrew’s Church called The Daughters of St. Andrew’s. This women’s group collected recipes from other chapter members as well as congregants and compiled them into this cookbook. Originally called The King’s Daughters, The Daughters of St. Andrew’s Guelph chapter was established in 1893 as a chapter of the greater worldwide Christian philanthropic organization of a similar name. The International organization, The International Order of the King’s Daughters and Sons, is the larger global organization founded in New York City 1886. Margaret Bottome, a Methodist clergy member’s wife began the movement as a means to help the fight against rampant poverty in the 1880’s. The King’s Daughters and Sons draw from all Christian denominations and focuses on “respecting differences while enjoying our commonalities.” St. Andrew’s Church in Guelph belongs to the Column Two Branch of the International Order and has a variety of community-driven philanthropic projects throughout Ontario to this day. The King’s Daughters and Sons run seniors assisted living apartments, daycares, hospitals and summer camps. This cookbook originally belonged to Judith Nasby who donated it to the University's archives in 2015.
