Red & White Health, Diet and General Recipe Book is a cookbook that was published with the intent of providing customers with recipes using products sold at the Red & White Grocery store. This book does not contain any information regarding an author or publisher, but the front cover states that the book is “Compliments of River Heights Grocery - - 472 Academy Rd.”. According to Elizabeth Driver’s Culinary Landmarks: A Bibliography of Canadian Cookbooks, the book was provided for free to customers of Red & White Grocery Stores in Manitoba throughout the 1930s, and Driver more specifically estimates the book’s year of publication to be 1935 through analysis of advertisements in the book. Additionally, based on these advertisements and the store provided on the cover, this cookbook appears to have been distributed in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The cover of the book is printed in red and black ink on white paper, presumably to keep with the book’s “Red & White” theme. The front cover has a paragraph discussing the value of healthy and high quality foods, as well as an image of two pillars with the following words wrapped around them in white ribbon: quality, uniformity, dependability, service, economy, profit, security, and success. It could be assumed that these are words that the Red & White Store wanted their customers to associate with their stores, products, and the recipes in the book.
