The cookbook Favourite Recipes and Housekeeping Tips and Tricks was crafted by a group of twenty-eight women from the local Royal Canadian Legion Branch 322 Ladies Auxiliary in Ajax, Ontario. There is no publication date mentioned, however, when the Ladies Auxiliary in Ajax was contacted by phone, they were able to provide a tentative release date of around 1950. The Charter for the Ladies Auxiliary was released on February 19, 1946. There were seventy-eight members who were part of the organization when the cookbook was released. The Ladies Auxiliary in Ajax at the time was involved in fundraisers such as Bingo, bazaars, and rummage sales, which allowed the group to buy kitchen appliances and equipment to oversee catering events. The Ladies Auxiliary enjoyed catering which built their culinary knowledge and education. The page with the historic information about the Ladies Auxiliary reveals that the Ajax Branch of the organization started with just a few members consisting of ladies or wives who wanted to help the veterans begin their own organization, which led to the ladies creating their separate organization. The individual branches of Ladies Auxiliaries played an integral role in community building across Canada since they ran activities throughout the year to help fundraise to assist their local Legion Branches, build health facilities and much needed community programs, support school activities, and provide Bursaries. The book’s primary objective was as a fundraiser. This was the first cookbook the Ladies Auxiliary published.
