Meet the Author
The Carnation Milk Product Company was originally called the Pacific Coast Condensed Milk Co. In 1899, the Pacific Coast Condensed Milk Co. was founded in Kent, Oregon by Elbridge Amos Stuart. In 1915, the company renamed itself Carnation Milk Product Company. The milk product they produced was evaporated milk, and they bought a creamery in Aylmer, Ontario to be their first branch in Canada and the new branch was called Carnation Co. Ltd. Their objective was to expand their business into Canada and to make more money. Eventually, the Carnation Milk Product Company was bought by the Nestle company in 1985, so the brand now has the title of Nestle over top of Carnation. The author of this cookbook is Mary Blake and her name is displayed on the cover page of the cookbook. The name of 'Mary Blake' was a pseudonym used by the Carnation Milk Company on publications promoting Carnation milk since 1923. She was Carnation milk product company’s director of home economics as reflected in multiple cookbooks and magazines such as “Life” magazine. In 1922, there was published recipe called One Hundred Tested Recipes but without a name, thus it was already involved Mary Blake. So, to add on her contribution, the company used her pseudonym as the author of ‘My Hundred Favorite Recipes’ in 1924.
