This cookbook contains 265 recipes, some of which are in multiples of one dish, and some of which are unique or interesting variations on traditional Jewish recipes. There is a distinct lack of graphics in the book, featuring only logos, as seen on the cover and in 2 of the adverts inside, and one nearly half-page advertisement for “New Sunlight Liquid” featuring a simple line drawing of a bottle of Sunlight Liquid (for dishes) on page 12. These images did not complement the text, as they were nearly unrelated to the book’s contents and provided no real value to the reader.

The purpose of this book, as was mentioned in the foreword by Rabbi Witty, appears to be to “re-establish the position of the ‘Yiddish balebosteh,'" a term used to describe a traditional Jewish housewife devoted to maintaining her home, as well as to “preserve the Jewish ‘taam’ [flavour]” in the home. Essentially, the objective was to preserve the age-old role of the Jewish housewife and place of traditional Jewish dishes in the home. Consequently, the cookbook was written for Jewish women living in Winnipeg at the time, aimed mainly at the younger mothers and wives in the community.
