The cookbook Chinese Recipes is an advertisement cookbook produced by V-H The King of Sauces Quality Food Products LTD. The company located in Duvernay, Montreal was founded by Vincent Harrison in the 1950s after “a journey to find something more than just your usual North American fare”. The tenth edition cookbook, written between 1960 and 1980, was created to bring the taste of delicious Chinese dishes to the homes of North Americans where they could easily be prepared at a low cost. Indeed, while it was written in a time of multiculturalism and immigration of many Chinese settlers to Canada, it subsequently became a tool for advertising V-H’s products. The 36-paged cookbook contains many North American favorites as well as many other easy to make recipes for lunch or dinner. In addition, it includes highly favored Chinese sauces and ingredients that are both consumer friendly and easy to find.

As to ensure outmost satisfaction in preparation of the varying dishes and desserts, this cookbook incorporates valuable information pertaining to the appropriate and relatively simple kitchen tools that could be used, with special emphasis on complementing choice of beverage and the traditional use of chopsticks. This cookbook also gives new purpose to leftover foods that could be used in creating flavorful and authentic Chinese dishes.
