The author of the cookbook is a company called the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, where they had a Canadian Head Office located in Ottawa, Ontario. The background and history of the company relating to cookbooks dates to 1918, when the company had a goal to be involved in peoples’ kitchens.[1] The parent company, the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, is now known as MetLife Inc. and was established in 1863.[2] Presently, MetLife is involved in providing insurance and financial services. For instance, they help small businesses achieve financial solutions, or provide Broker information.[3] The company stopped producing cookbooks in the 1960s,[4] however their goal was to be a staple in modern kitchens so that people could rely on the cookbook to make good wholesome meals for their family. There is reason to believe that the cookbooks listed below have been involved in peoples’ kitchen because of societal events. Such as, a cookbook was produced at the end of the First World War, and another during the Great Depression. So, being a part of people’s kitchens was an important milestone for the company.
