Sarah Tyson Rorer is a well known American cookbook author. Rorer was born in Pennsylvania in October 1849. Her long career in the culinary field began with the foundation of her cooking school, the Philadelphia School of Cookery, which was in operation until 1903. In addition, her dedication to the culinary field allowed her to travel to Canada in 1898, further becoming a well-known culinary figure and expert around North America. Throughout her career, Rorer published over fifty cookbooks, primarily across the United States. Such titles include Cakes, Icings and Fillings and SandwichesHome Helps was one of Rorer’s few Canadian cookbooks. While the cookbook certainly acts as an advertisement, Rorer most likely wrote this cookbook as a guide and instruction manual for the ideal 1900.
