Introduction
The Tried and Tested Recipes cookbook was published in 1934 or 1935 by the Regina Chapter of Hadassah. This is an estimated time as Ms. Martin A. Rose was the president of the Regina Chapter of Hadassah during these two years, these recipes are a part of a fourteen-category community cookbook. This second edition English written cookbook published in Regina, Saskatchewan is filled with over 64 pages of recipes all by woman. After each recipe each woman is credited under the recipe they shared.The success of this cookbook can be attributed to the advertisements found within it, which are depicted by images and bold font. Only some of these advertisements hold value to the cookbook as they relate to food.
The previous owner of this cookbook before arriving at the University of Guelph Archives and Special Collections is unknown however found within the cookbook is a note describing its donation to a past fundraiser by a University of Guelph grad.This cookbook is most notable within the Jewish population and its purpose was to help Jewish families during the great depression as well as encourage Jewish culture in Canada. There are universal recipes such as omelettes, but there are many unique recipes within and a section of this cookbook is dedicated to Passover and Purim foods.
