Circa 1950, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 322 Ladies Auxiliary in Ajax, Ontario, created the cookbook entitled Favourite Recipes and Housekeeping Tips and Tricks. The book contains ninety-six pages; however, the only numbered pages are those with recipes numbered from one to twenty-six. The section in the book for housekeeping suggestions appears after the recipes and is indexed a through z with the titles themed around various household chores in alphabetical order. There are also pages with various advertisements throughout the book. The book is printed in black and white and is comb bound in black with laminated white paper front and back covers. The pages of the book are typed on creamy white coloured paper. The first section of the book contains fifty-two recipes that are organized into seven sections: Salads, Soups and Vegetables; Meat, Fish and Poultry; Breads, Rolls and Cookies; Cake and Pastry; Desserts; Candy, Jelly and Preserves; and Miscellaneous. Each new section of the cookbook provides general cooking and baking suggestions, how long to cook specific meats or poultry, and a table providing approximate equivalents or substitutions in baking and cooking. For each section there is some extra space for the owner of the book to write “Extra Recipes”. There are a few pages within the book that have non-specific hints for cooking and entertaining.
