Introduction

The cookbook, Build the Health of Your Family with Properly Prepared Foods Made Possible by the New Method of Cooking. What Greater Wealth Than Perfect Health, was published by the Aluminum Company of Canada in Toronto, Ontario in the later 1920s. Within the six pages of the book, the company is promoting their “Wear-Ever” brand of aluminum cooking utensils, advertised as “thick, heavy gauge, cold-rolled, stamped, pure aluminum with our usual good workmanship.” They also emphasize how their cooking tools will add nutrition to every component of the cooking process. The book is divided into reasons why the new method of cooking should be used for five different divisions of cooking. It notes three different types of foods to cook without water (vegetables, fruits, and fried foods) and two different ways to cook without water (roasting and broiling). The aim of the book is to convince readers that their new method of cooking is a necessity if one wants their family to be healthy and eat the best quality of foods. Ultimately, the purpose of Build the Health of Your Family is to sell their Wear-Ever aluminum cooking products.
