This Jellied BBQ Salad incorporates the classic gelatine product that was used in many dishes in the 1950s. For the dairy product, Silverwood Dairies chose to highlight cottage cheese in this recipe. What is interesting about this recipe is that it does not require many ingredients and has very few elements that would add texture to the dish. Something that seems to represent the time period well is the mention of how the dish should be presented. Despite the fact that the recipe itself does not seem difficult to put together, the fact that it calls for the Jellied BBQ Salad to be presented on top of lettuce shows special attention to detail and speaks to the dinner parties and the importance placed on appearance at the time the cookbook was published.

These Sour Cream Sugar Cookies are a classic treat from the mid-20th century. This recipe could easily be replicated today because the ingredients are commonplace. As the title suggests, sour cream is the dairy product chosen to be the star of the show. The recipe is easy to follow but it does assume the reader has some prior knowledge of baking as it does not say how thick the sugar cookies should be when cutting them out or what consistency the dough should be. A beginning baker may not understand that when making sugar cookies, a dough that is too crumbly or too wet might not produce a palatable finished product.
