Did You Know?

Prior to the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 in the United States, ingredients such as alcohol, opium, and cocaine were frequently used in proprietary medicine. Without regulations in place, consumers were often completely unaware of the true contents of the patent medicines they were consuming.
