The author of the cookbook Milk: The Food of Foods is Laura C. Pepper. Pepper wrote several cookbooks published by the Canadian Department of Agriculture between 1936 and 1939. Pepper was one of many female authors that were hired by the Department of Agriculture to write their cookbooks and information booklets. The cookbooks written by Pepper have a common thread of focusing on dairy and other agricultural products that were produced in Canada during the 1930s. In addition to Milk: The Food of Foods, Pepper also wrote the book Cheese For Better Meals and Milk Desserts, both of which highlight dairy products. Pepper’s works often included many facts about nutrition, details about dairy consumption, and the benefits of incorporating milk into your diet. In Milk: The Food of Foods and other cookbooks written by Pepper, she regularly mentions the responsibilities that women were entrusted with around the house, especially preparing food for the family and providing nutritious meals for growing children. Although it is unclear whether Pepper had children of her own or a background in nutritional science, as an author she appears knowledgeable and a trustyworthy source.
