Introduction

Stainless Steel Cookware for Tastier Foods, Better Health is a cookbook produced by Canadian Cookware Limited. Published in Toronto in the 1950s, the sixteen page cookbook includes an abundance of recipes, advertisements, and nutritional recommendations. The cookbook was sold alongside Canadian Cookware Limited's Waterless Cookware. The purpose of this cookbook was to provide tastier and healthier recipes utilizing the advertised cookware set. Acting as a guide to properly use the waterless cookware, the book places great emphasis on also eating a balanced diet. The book has many advertisements promoting the brand Canadian Cookware Limited and their products. The cooking set is described as superior and healthier than other cooking sets because of its non-stick surface and ability to cook without the addition of water and oil. The recipes included cover all food groups, instructing the user on the preparation of fruits and vegetables, poultry, fish, pork, and beef, as well as a section for desserts near the back of the book. The cookbook also acts as a food guide for all age groups, recommending what portions of the different food groups should be consumed to maintain a healthy diet. In this way, it mimics Canada's food guide at the time. The book also has charts that discuss vitamins and minerals and the foods that contain them. With the goal of improving Canadians' diets, Stainless Steel Cookware for Tastier Foods, Better Health instructs its readers on how to prepare recipes that are part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle using the cookware set advertised.
