W.K Kellogg

The Housewife’s Year Book of Health and Homemaking was written by “recognized authorities” of the Kellogg’s company. Kellogg's was created in 1906 by Will Keith (W.K.) Kellogg. The company’s original name was the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company, which was changed to the Kellogg Company in 1922. Will Keith and his brother, John Harvey, were looking to create a breakfast food for patients at the Battle Creek Sanitarium in Battle Creek, Michigan. They created a flaked wheat berry, which evolved into a flaked corn product and, subsequently, became the recipe for Kellogg’s Corn Flakes. In 1916, Kellogg's introduced All-Bran, which was a high fiber cereal. During the Great Depression in the 1930s when this cookbook was created, the Kellogg Company wished to “invest in the people” and tried to hire as many employees as possible when unemployment rates were high. Kellogg's is still a thriving company today, with products in 180 countries across the world.
