The London Life Insurance Company was established in London, Ontario, in 1874. John. G Richard served as general manager in the 1880s, and under his leadership, the company designed insurance policies with payment schedules for the average Canadian. There was an enormous insurance scandal throughout Canada in 1906, but London Life was one of the few companies that made it through without harming their reputation. After the Royal Commission on Insurance published its findings, London Life’s reputation grew exponentially, which led to the company rapidly expanding between 1906 and 1926. Salads for Health was published in 1936, only a year before London Life expanded its offices across Canada. Likely, several thousand copies of Salads for Health were distributed to clients. Throughout the latter part of the 20th century, London Life was considered one of the leading insurance companies in Canada, acquiring several other insurance operations. In 2020, London Life, Great-West Life, and Canada Life insurance companies amalgamated and became Canadian Life.
