Good Bread: This Book Tells How To Make Good Bread was compiled by a Saint Paul, Minnesota-based firm called Chester Kent and Co. to advertise a product they manufactured called Vinol. The company was in operation from 1905 to 1959 and produced several different medicines in concert with firms such as the Adlerika Company. Notable medicines produced by the company include Adlerika (a laxative and treatment for appendicitis), Adla tablets (for stomach-related illnesses), Daru liver pills, and Vinol (a tonic for anemia). The Chester Kent and Co. operated in both Canada and the United States and had branches in Toronto and Windsor, Ontario. Aside from the manufacturing of the above-mentioned medicines, Chester Kent and Co. also handled the marketing of their own products, hence the creation of this cookbook. Rather than use their company name on the cover of their cookbook, Chester Kent and Co. had the name of the local druggist responsible for the distribution of their products placed on the cover of the book. In the case of this edition, L.C. Gardner and Co., Druggists, from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia appears on the cover.
