Meet the Author

Deaconess Maude Behrman was the deaconess of the United Lutheran Church of America and had a history of service both as a dietitian and an administrator. She was born in Brooklyn and educated at  Temple University and the Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia. At the time she was the current director of the Mercer Memorial House in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She has also taught home economics at Lankenau School for Girls, and for 25 years, she was Director of the Dietary Department of the Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia. Maude Behrmanan was an affiliate of the American Diabetes Association where she served for two years as their consulting dietitian. As the author of the C, she can be considered a reliable source for information pertaining to diabetics. Maude Behrman intends to provide the necessary information for understanding the limitations of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association is a non-profit organization that exists to inform the public about diabetes and to help those affected by it. The organization is raising money to cure, treat and prevent diabetes. It was founded in 1939 by Joseph Barack, Herman Mosenthal, Joseph Beardwood, and Cecil Striker with this goal in mind (Behrman, 1959).
