B’nai B’rith International is a Jewish humanitarian organization that promotes human rights, acceptance and advocacy for Israel around the world. They champion availability of low-income housing for seniors and their families. They also help to provide safe spaces for persecuted groups.

The backgrounds of the individual authors of the International Cook Book, published by the Women’s Donor Committee of B’nai B’rith have unfortunately been lost to time. However, there is some information regarding their organization that has been preserved; notably, the function of the Women’s Donor Committees that were a part of the larger B’nai B’rith organization in the mid to late twentieth century. Many of these groups would organize luncheons and dances in order to fund raise for their respective chapters. These cookbooks would be community led projects, where individual members of a chapter would source and submit recipes to the editors. The editors of the cookbooks would usually be other members of the chapter; generally prominent in the whole community. The publishing house for the book sold them directly at B’nai B’rith headquarters.
