Apple pancakes and coffee, a simple healthy breakfast.

Apple Pancakes with Coffee

This sweet, health breakfast complements nicely to Lindauer’s goal of showing that all men, women and children are created with an equal right to be thin. With fresh ingredients and the minimal preparation required, this recipe is one that anyone can make. An interesting take on pancakes, this meal calls for skim milk and eggs, as normal, then calls for sliced bread instead of flour. This meal is more of a twist on french toast than pancakes, but still a tasting filling meal either way. Lindauer uses this recipe to engage with her readers. By sharing her experiences in making this meal herself, Lindauer gives her readers a sense of ease as they can trust in this recipe now that they know the author tried and enjoyed it herself.

Chef's salad and peach ice cream, a tasty nutritious lunch.

Chef's Salad with Peach Ice Cream

This lunch recipe exemplifies Lindauer’s plan of making dieting pleasurable and realistic. Made from fresh, healthy ingredients you can find in your own cupboard, and requiring little prep, this recipe brings a lot to the table. Fulfilling two servings of the daily allotted milk and fruit portions with a delicious post salad bite, Lindauer leaves it up to her readers to get creative and really personalize this meal with the chef’s salad. Allowing her readers to use as much, or as little, of the ‘unlimited’ foods listed earlier in the cookbook, she also gave her readers an easy recipe that can be made to fit anyone’s tastes. Withstanding the test of time, this is a recipe that would be easy to recreate today and be enjoyed by most.
