Burekas were popular cheese/potato stuffed pastries that were eagerly bought every morning by Israeli customers. These pastries are relatively simple to make. They include one pound of pre-made pastry or strudel dough, half a pound of cheddar and salty white cheese, one egg and sesame seeds. To prepare, you mix the egg and cheese together followed by dividing the dough in half which will then be rolled into a rectangle. Following this, the dough will be cut in four-inch squares which are then filled with cheese. These will then be folded into a triangle and using the egg wash on top, they will be sprinkled with sesame seeds. Lastly, bake them at 350 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes or until golden brown and serve them hot.
