Introduction

Food Becomes You, or, Better Health through Better Nutrition is a health-based cookbook from 1961 written by author Ruth M. Leverton, which focuses on improving the readers overall health. The contents within this cookbook are different than others as the primary objectives are not featuring recipes. Food Becomes You, or, Better Health through Better Nutrition contains guidelines on how to establish a healthy routine around your meals, referencing recommendations on what to eat versus containing full recipes. The center focal point of this cookbook is a series of tables which focuses on what to eat for every meal of the week, offering recommendations of low-fat meals which would assist the reader in shedding unwanted weight. This cookbook further explores the topic of the readers health, containing charts for nutritional statistics of common food items, as well as non-food related health being exercise recommendations as well as a weight to height ratio guideline. Food Becomes You, or, Better Health through Better Nutrition goes in depth on two final topics surrounding establishing healthy habits. The first is a guide for parents on preparing healthy meals for children and the second being how to spend your money efficiently while shopping for groceries. Overall, Food Becomes You, or, Better Health through Better Nutrition could be viewed as a nutritional guide in addition to being recognized as a cookbook.
