Recipe Cards
I chose the following recipes as they provide insight into the wide range of cooking styles, ingredients, and difficulty throughout the cookbook. Most importantly, I felt the two recipes show the range of price that can be seen throughout the recipes.
The first recipe “Beef Tenderloin” is higher priced and more suited for multiple guests. There are two aspects that standout with this recipe, the first being the cost of a three-pound beef tenderloin. According to Kimberly Holland beef tenderloin can “come at two price points: $11.99/lb and $19.99/lb. (USD)." The recipe requires a four pound tenderloin which would cost approximately $40. The second aspect that stands out is the requirement to flambé the sauce. Flambéing is the act of lighting a high proof alcohol on fire to burn off the ethanol while keeping the flavor of the alcohol. As flambéing is not often practiced in the home kitchen, I felt this aspect adds to my point that there is a wide range of price and difficulty throughout the book.
The second recipe I chose was “Roasted Potatoes with Parmesan”. This recipe represents the simplicity of recipes in the cookbook. It requires three ingredients, potatoes, olive oil, and parmesan. The instructions only require the potatoes to be cut and seasoned with the olive oil and parmesan cheese prior to placing them on the preheated plank. With minimal ingredients, the total cost of the recipe is very modest. This speaks towards the difference in price and complexity of recipes that are included in the cookbook.
Overall, the recipes I chose to highlight provide a great view of the options available throughout this cookbook.
