Introduction
Classic Cooking with Coca-Cola is a cookbook written by the original Coca-Cola founding family. This cookbook primarily features southern recipes that all incorporate various Coca-Cola products. Although Coke itself is used most frequently, other recipes call for Sprite, Fresca or Minute Maid, which are all products owned by the Coca-Cola Company. Due to its southern inspiration and the American Nationalism tied to the Coca-Cola brand, this cookbook is primarily aimed at the North American audience. This cookbook tends to feature non-healthy recipes, with its salad section consisting primarily of gelatin salads. As it does not have a close relation with nutrition, diet, or Kosher cooking, it is an interesting find to be in the possession of Norene Gilletz.
Published in 1994, this cookbook follows the theme of cooking with branded products. Arguably an advertisement for Coca-Cola, even though the brand did not endorse it, it is speculated that this cookbook used the Coca-Cola company as a crafty marketing ploy. Cooking with branded products was a very popular marketing tactic in the 1990s which definitely aided the popularity of this cookbook. Although it is reminiscent of the 1990s, it does differ slightly with modern cookbooks. The idea of cooking with trendy products is still popular today, however there has been a significant switch from what these trendy products are considered to be. At the time Classic Cooking with Coca-Cola was published, Coca-Cola was exceptionally trendy, however nowadays there is much more of an emphasis on healthy, organic foods and cooking.
