Introduction

The Home Book of Italian Cooking written by Angela Catanzaro in 1957 shares a collection of classic Italian recipes. The cookbook contains over 150 authentic Italian recipes each focusing on the use of fresh ingredients and simple techniques. Catanzaro wrote the book as a tribute to her mother, whose culture inspired each dish. Each chapter in the cookbook deals with a certain type of food including; pasta, sauces, meats, fish and poultry to name a few. Each recipe starts with a list of ingredients and measurements in the metric system followed by how to properly clean and prepared the food before cooking it, then continues into a step by step description on how to complete the dish. Although the cookbook is written in English the Italian language is not lost, as each recipe is titled in Italian followed by the English translations. Chapter One of the cookbook outlines classic Italian dishes translated to English and described what the ingredients are and what is it used for. The main theme of Italian cuisine is present in each dish and flows throughout the cookbook giving the reader an easy to follow recipes that are sure to result in delicious meals.
