A graduate of Brandeis University, in Waltham Massachusetts, and a mother to two daughters, Lois Lyons Lindauer in Its In To Be Thin, aims to help others struggling with their weight loss journey. Founder of The Diet Workshop and author of many diet workshop booklets, as well as an Its In To Be Thin column appearing in many newspapers, Lindauer, is described as “A former fat lady who turned her love of food and cooking into a career in weight control”[2]. Lindauer was born fat and learned from her personal weight loss struggle “that successful dieting has to be pleasurable and realistic”[3]. This inspired her to create her own delicious and medically sound diet plan. Lindauer “spent half a lifetime being more plump than pleasing…[tried] every fad diet on record…she is [now] a slim, lovely woman who knows the feeling of pride, self-respect and achievement that grows as the excess pounds fade away”[4]. As a compulsive eater, Lindauer learned to control her behaviour and encourages others to do the same through her cookbook.
