Gilletz was born and raised in 1940 in Winnipeg, MB, and moved to Montreal in the 1960s to raise her family. She first learned to cook from her mother, cooking mainly Jewish and Canadian cuisine. This was the second book she ever published, after Second Helpings Please!, a cookbook centred around down-to-earth kosher recipes. She later went on to publish many more best-selling cookbooks, such as MicroWays (The Microwave Bible) and Meal Leani Yumm! (All that’s Missing is the Fat). Gilletz also owned and operated a cooking school and kitchenware shop in Montreal for ten years, after which she ran a publishing business and began to consult as a cooking expert. Among other titles, she has been referred to as the Julia Child of kosher cuisine, and the Jewish-Canadian Martha Stewart. When reading this copy of The Pleasures of Your Food Processor, the handwritten notes evoke an image of Gilletz cooking in her home kitchen, tweaking and perfecting these recipes as she goes. Her legacy in Canadian and Jewish cooking is far-reaching, and her recipes will certainly continue to delight families for decades to come.
