Associated Hebrew Schools of Toronto (AHS) is a collective of three private Jewish day schools in the North York neighborhood of Toronto, Ontario. It was founded in 1907 under the leadership of Rabbi Jacob Gordon, when secular courses were integrated into the curriculum of the Simcoe Street Talmud Torah, a Hebrew-language day school. The Associated Hebrew Schools are comprised of: Danilack Middle School, serving grades six to eight as the only stand-alone Jewish middle school in the Greater Toronto Area; Kamin Elementary School; and the Posluns Education Centre, which both enroll junior kindergarten through grade five.

Danilack and Kamin are housed on a single campus, the Hurwich Education Centre located at Bathurst and Finch in Toronto. The Posluns Education Centre is located on a second campus at Bathurst and Neptune. All the Associated Hebrew Schools aim to foster excellence in both secular and Judaic studies, while instilling a love of Torah, the State of Israel, and the Hebrew language. It strives to cultivate “Klal Yisrael”; a Yiddish expression describing unity between all Jews, regardless of nationality.

Grade 2 Challah Bake With Moms at Kamin Elementary School.

Food remains an important part of the culture at AHS. As part of the curriculum at Kamin Elementary School, second grade students learn the names of their favourite foods in Hebrew, along with the names of popular Israeli dishes. In third grade, students are expected to follow recipes in Hebrew and prepare the dishes themselves. By grades four and five, Kamin students cook, bake, and create a pop-up restaurant with Hebrew menus, where all the serving and ordering takes place in Hebrew! AHS has hosted many challah bakes, pickling workshops, and Shabbat dinners for its students and for the larger community.
